Full Day Salmon Fishing Trip

Description

With hundreds of thousands of square miles of backcountry to explore, you can be sure we’ll find the adventure of a lifetime on this snowmobile adventure!  We’ll ride snow covered trails through boreal forests and across frozen lakes, through the valleys and into the hills of the Willow and Petersville areas of Southcentral Alaska.  On clear days, we’ll have unparalleled views of the Alaska and Talkeetna mountain ranges, including Denali.  Guests can choose to operate their own snowmobile (if you want to sound like an Alaskan, you can call it a snowmachine) or to ride along with another member of their party.  Your guide will choose between several available specific locations to ensure each tour has access to the best riding conditions available.  We’ll be driving between an hour and two hours north of Anchorage, riding for 3 to 4 hours, and will return you to your hotel after we’re finished.  Total tour time with travel and riding will be between 7 and 9 hours, depending on drive time, snow conditions, weather and daylight.  This sport has inherent dangers.  You will be required to sign a liability waiver, and will be expected to follow the direction of your guide.  Guests should be prepared for Alaskan weather, wearing boots, snow pants, coats, hats and gloves.  We have a limited selection of gear to supplement your winter clothing, please contact us in advance if you’re not sure if your gear is sufficient.

Itinerary

Your guide will pick you and your group up at your hotel by 8am the day of your Matanuska Glacier tour.

We’ll drive one to two hours north of Anchorage, with a rest stop about half-way, where you’ll be able to pick up fresh deli sandwiches for lunch. Coffee and other snacks are available for purchase at this stop as well.
Your guide will choose from several specific location riding locations. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to get geared up in your winter clothing. While you’re getting geared up, your guide will be unloading and prepping the snowmachines. We’ll provide a balaclava-style face covering when necessary, and a helmet. Your guide will cover safety and operation instructions and familiarize you with your snowmachine.
As we leave the van behind, we’ll head into the wilderness on groomed trails. When conditions allow, there will be opportunity to get off the trails to try some backcountry powder riding. This is where you’ll have a chance to test your athleticism and balance, to put all your recently acquired skill to work, and possibly put your arms and back to work as well, as it’s not uncommon to get your snowmachine stuck when the powder gets deep. Not to worry though, we’ll get you out, and back on relatively firm trail in no time. There is limited storage space available for snacks, extra warm clothes, etc. and you’ll be able to strap a backpack or small bag on the snowmachine.
After everyone’s had their fill of exploring the trails and powder, we’ll trailer the snowmachines and head back to Anchorage. We’ll have you back at your hotel in time for dinner. The duration is roughly 8am to 4 or 5 pm, but is subject to adjustments due to light conditions and other variables.

Snowmobile Tour Notes

  • Especially in Spring, melting snow can cause wet conditions.  Reasonably waterproof boots are recommended.
  • Weather where we’ll be riding is often 5° to 15° colder than in Anchorage
  • Dress in layers.  When the weather turns out a little different than forecast, the sun comes out, or wind picks up, the ability to adjust to the conditions can make your time at the glacier much more enjoyable.
  • Bring a small backpack or other means of carrying the few things you may want to keep available while we’re out; a hat, gloves, and water bottle for example.
  • Snowmachining can be tailored to a suit people with a fairly wide variety of skill and fitness levels, however, it is not recommended for those with significant health concerns.  Please check with us before booking if this applies to you.
  • Feel free to give us a call or send a message if you have additional questions or concerns.
