Full Day Snowmobile & Ice Fishing for Northern Pike

Description

Discover Alaska’s winter beauty on a full-day trip that pairs a snowmobile ride with ice fishing for Northern Pike. We pick you up in Anchorage and head north, where you hop on a snowmobile for a scenic ride across frozen trails. At Red Shirt Lake, step into a heated tent and fish for pike with help from our friendly guides. Enjoy the thrill of reeling in these lively fish while surrounded by snow-covered views. Warm up as you sip water, snack, and swap stories with fellow travelers. Finish the day with a ride back, feeling recharged by fresh air and fun.

Itinerary

Your Alaska Adventures guide will meet you at your hotel at the scheduled time. We’ll travel about 1–1.5 hours north of Anchorage in a comfortable van, with a stop along the way if you’d like to grab snacks or use the restroom.

After arriving at the launch area, we’ll go over basic safety guidelines, then suit you up with a helmet and goggles. Enjoy a 30–40 minute snowmobile ride through Alaska’s winter wilderness on your way to Red Shirt Lake. Keep an eye out for scenic views and wildlife tracks along the trail.

Once we reach Red Shirt Lake, our guides will help you set up in a heated, insulated tent on the ice. Spend 3–5 hours fishing for Northern Pike using the rods, reels, and gear we provide. Bottled water is included, and you’re welcome to bring along lunch or snacks to enjoy between bites.

When you’re ready to call it a day, you’ll hop back on your snowmobile for the 30–40 minute return ride to the van. We’ll then drive you back to Anchorage, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, bringing your adventure to a close.

Notes

  • Purchasing your fishing license: State of Alaska fishing regulations require everyone over the age of 15 years old to have a sport fishing license. You’ll want to purchase a one-day non-resident sport fishing license for every angler over 15.
  • A fishing license must be signed to be valid.  The most convenient way of doing this is by using the check box to DIGITALLY SIGN your license during the purchase process.
  • With flight schedule changes happening more and more frequently, we recommend waiting until you’re confident you’ll make it to Anchorage in time for your scheduled tour before you purchase your fishing license.
  • Dress in layers.  When the weather turns out a little different than forecast, the sun comes out, or wind picks up, the ability to adjust to the conditions can make your time at the river much more enjoyable.
  • Bring a small backpack or other means of carrying the few things you may want to keep available while we’re out; a hat, polarized sunglasses, water bottle and your preferred bug spray and sunscreen for example.
  • We’ll have bottled water, bug spray and sunscreen in the van.  You’re welcome to bring your preferred variety.
  • Feel free to give us a call if you have additional questions or concerns.
  • Helmets and goggles are provided for the snowmobile ride, but no additional clothing or footwear is supplied. Bring your own warm jacket, gloves, hat, snow pants, and insulated boots.
  • Snowmobiling can be adapted to different skill levels, but if you have significant health concerns or limitations, please contact us before booking.
  • Feel free to call or send us a message if you need more details or want to discuss specific needs before your tour.

FAQs

We typically operate from November through April, when the ice and snow conditions are best for snowmobiling and ice fishing. If conditions become unsafe, we may postpone or adjust your tour.

No experience is required. Our guides will give you a quick safety briefing and instructions before you ride. We tailor the trip to match each group’s skill level, but you should be in reasonable physical shape to handle the machine.

If you’re over 15, you need a valid sport fishing license. One-day non-resident licenses are available online or at many local retailers. We recommend buying it once you’re sure your travel plans won’t change.

Yes, families with children are welcome. Keep in mind that children should be old enough to follow safety instructions and handle cold weather. If a child is not driving a snowmobile, they can ride with an adult, as long as both are comfortable with the arrangement.

Plan to dress in warm, layered clothing, plus waterproof boots. We provide helmets and goggles, but not jackets, pants, or gloves. Bringing a small backpack with water, snacks, sunscreen, and extra gloves is a good idea.

We provide bottled water and make a stop en route where you can purchase food or snacks. You’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch if you prefer.
