Full Day Ice Fishing Tour in Alaska

Full Day Ice Fishing Tour in Alaska

Description

On this full-day ice fishing trip from Anchorage, we take your winter angling experience to the next level. With the additional time compared to our half-day tour, we’re able to travel farther from Anchorage to reach remote, productive lakes known for larger and more numerous fish. This extended range gives us the flexibility to target prime waters and maximise your chances of success.

Depending on conditions, we may pursue northern pike, burbot, Arctic char, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon, some of Alaska’s most exciting ice fishing species. Whether you’re chasing trophy northern pike through the ice or looking to hook into aggressive burbot or char, this trip offers more opportunity, more variety, and more time on the ice.

We are an Alaska Department of Fish & Game registered guide service, and our licensed guides have years of experience leading successful Alaska ice fishing trips. You’ll fish from a heated, insulated pop-up tent for comfort in even the coldest conditions. We provide rods, reels, tackle, and all specialised equipment needed to fish safely through multiple feet of ice.

Guests may choose to keep fish within regulations or practise catch and release. If you’re looking for a true full-day ice fishing adventure near Anchorage with an experienced Alaska fishing guide, this is the trip for you.

Notes

  • Purchasing your fishing license: State of Alaska fishing regulations require any non-resident over the age of 15 years old to have a sport fishing license. You’ll want to purchase a one-day non-resident sport fishing license for every angler over 15.  A King Salmon stamp is NOT necessary on our ice fishing trips.
  • A fishing license must be signed to be valid.  The most convenient way of doing this is by using the check box to digitally sign your license during the purchase process.  You’ll need to have an account with ADF&G to use the digital signature option. Alternatively, you can take a screenshot of your digital license and sign it in your photo editing app.
  • Have questions regarding purchasing your fishing license online? Watch this short video on our YouTube channel for a how-to!
  • With flight schedule changes happening more and more frequently, we recommend waiting until you’re confident you’ll make it to Anchorage in time for your scheduled trip before you purchase your fishing license.
  • Because we fish several places over a wide geographic area, you’ll want to be prepared for varying weather conditions.
  • Dress in layers.  When the weather turns out a little different than forecast, the sun comes out, or wind picks up, the ability to adjust to the conditions can make your time on the ice much more enjoyable.
  • Bring a small backpack or other means of carrying the few things you may want to keep available while we’re out, a hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle for example.
  • Bring your shades.  It can be bright on the ice, with the sun’s rays reflecting from every direction.
  • Bottled water will be provided.  Feel free to bring additional snacks or drinks as you’d like.
  • Feel free to give us a call if you have additional questions or concerns

FAQs

Our full-day ice fishing trips in Southcentral Alaska typically run from November through April, depending on ice conditions. Peak mid-winter months often provide the most consistent ice thickness and access to remote fisheries.

With a full day on the ice, we’re able to expand beyond Anchorage’s local lakes and pursue a wider range of species. Depending on conditions, we may target northern pike, burbot, Arctic char, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon. The added time allows us to reach lakes known for larger fish and greater numbers.

Yes. We use a mobile, insulated pop-up ice shelter that allows us to stay flexible and move with changing fish patterns throughout the day. Unlike permanent structures (which are rarely used in Alaska), our portable shelter lets us relocate quickly to stay on active fish.

We use a heated, insulated ice fishing shelter equipped with propane or diesel heaters. Even on colder days — 0° to 10°F (-18°C to -12°C) the interior remains comfortable. On milder winter days, fishing outside can also be surprisingly pleasant. We’ll advise you on layering to ensure you stay comfortable for the full day.

Yes. Safety is our top priority. It takes approximately 2 inches of clear ice to support a person’s weight, but we never fish on ice less than about 4 inches thick. By mid-winter, many Southcentral Alaska lakes have ice measured in feet rather than inches, strong enough to support heavy vehicles.

We carry a limited selection of winter gear to supplement what you bring. If you need boots, snow pants, or other specific cold-weather items for your full-day Anchorage ice fishing trip, please let us know in advance.

The full-day option allows us to travel farther from Anchorage and access less-pressured lakes with higher trophy potential. If you’re serious about targeting larger northern pike or adding burbot and Arctic char to your catch list, the extra time significantly increases opportunity and flexibility.

Our full-day ice fishing trips generally last 7–8 hours, depending on travel distance and conditions. This extended time gives us the ability to adjust locations, refine techniques, and maximise your chances of landing quality fish.

  • Access to remote lakes beyond the Anchorage city limits

  • Opportunity to target northern pike and burbot in addition to trout and salmon

  • Heated, mobile shelter for comfort all day

  • Flexible strategy — we can relocate if needed to stay on active fish

  • Immersive winter scenery in true Alaskan wilderness

If you’re looking for a deeper, more complete Alaska ice fishing experience, the full-day trip delivers more water, more species, and more opportunity.
